I sell smart phones. Why, after food update, there is no difference between retail volume, price during different economy phases? In normal economy: During 24h period i sell 610 phones for 780 each. In boom economy: During 24h period i sell 610 phones for 780 each. Why is that? Before update there was difference. People already reported it ingame. Possibly the same problem like with chocolate and diesel (see changelog), i informed Patrik.

Now back to Normal economy. Up until now, I've been able to source Smartphones off the Exchange to make a (admittedly, a smaller than originally) profit. For the past several days, best I could do is low volume with only a few dollars a unit profit (i.e. single digit profits - it was barely better in BOOM Economy!!). It seems that there is a slow decline in profitability here for Smartphones. I'm not sure how much of that is simply explained as a supply / demand problem (beyond the change we saw with the Food intro). If so, it would seem that Electronics as a whole industry has become nonviable, as that explanation means that producers have slowly changed focus. Was that the intention of these changes?
Edit:
I want to add that other Retailable Electronics are generally too expensive except for Boom Economy (their price varies too much to be reliable supply - not sure how well those producers fare), so I don't regularly purchase those as I don't bother trying to search anymore and waste time (look, I'm not and never wanted to spend a big amount of time in game - that was what was appealing about the long-term build aspect, I didn't have to, except now... well, you know by now).
Edit 2:
For posterity, I want to note that I used the Encyclopedia to compare, adjusting Sales Bonus to equivalent of 3 Recreational buildings at level 3. I currently am only "maintaining" 2 of them, as they cost weekly Simboosts. To maintain the third one means I have to dip into my paid-for bank of Simboosts - which, given the recent happenings, why would one do that?

Must say that my observation is not what I was expecting to come from an update. Other factors besides this update?

Quick Update - been focusing on Smartphones as a Mod had suggested earlier.
Yes, they are really the only one to consistently be profitable at scale (my 8 electronic stores are all level 24) across all economies of all electronics products today. I imagine, at small scale (up to level 15 stores??, just a guess), profits are just fine. (Note: I've been trying to limit myself to 2 rec buildings - level 3 each - as the third means I have to on net shell out extra simboosts).
I've been going BACKWARDS in rank. Now at 280s - recall, I was about to break 200 back in Oct/Nov. (the 3rd rec building would just mean I pay for the privilege of treading water, at best, but probably just go backwards more slowly)
But, for anyone hoping to break 200 rank as a retailer - faggedaboudit! - based on my experience now, going backwards, probably means limit is somewhere well below 280, which, imho, is just not right. I haven't researched to see who is doing electronics retail to see current rank, but I suspect similar story (I could be wrong, but then again I have those mfg building I just invested in doing nothing - my sales bonus focus makes me uncompetitive for the effort and investment, that they probably don't have).
Been awaiting building auctions in the hope of not taking a bath in losses from the investments I made ***just before food intro*** (let alone the historical investment to that point) so that I can make significant changes.
Lesson Learned: Cannot trust that you can focus on one industry (or even focus on maximizing sales bonus vs production bonus) - unimaginable, unannounced, and unjustified changes will happen, and if you want to do long term build, well, that's up to you mate. Maybe in the coming new world as just announced that will be viable. In this world, best to bide time until new industry arrives.

So much is broken about this game, at least transparency in industry data and reports would allow players to see what other players are doing in each industry in aggregate would help...

Quick Update: Now at Rank 338
A long ways from nearly breaking 200 (I did for one day - with CV in $290Ms in October). At that time I was projecting CV to be over $450M, possibly over $500M by today (near 150 Rank).
Very depressing. 😌
Went from CV $344M in January to $314M - most of that is due to inventory revaluation.
Had stock of very cheap input inventory at the time of the Food update. Spent that down manufacturing what I could at the new lower profit levels.
Since new input inventory surged in price, didn't bother buying replacements.
Since upgrading buildings were no longer worthwhile and researching next levels across the board not worth it (no positive ROI), spent that cash on the most price-stable items (based on last 6 months of 2021).
Turns out the market price of those items tumbled (not so much the inputs I used to use - so still unprofitable to produce what I used to).
Truth is, after breaching 300 (going backwards) just lost interest in coming here daily to keep things up.
I'm not a rage quitter (though I think I had good reason to be), but been holding out for building auctions in the hopes of not taking a HUGE hit from Scrapping 4 Buildings I made MAJOR investments in before the broadside that came with Food update.
No clear idea when that will be - will it even be 2022.
Also, found other games that are a more satisfactory experience, and have been trying them out - so less time for SimCo
Maybe the new Magnates world will be interesting.

If the new world functions as advertised it'll simply be a more efficient race to the top tier industry. Seems clear there is no intent to balance them to be competitive with each other, there's always one that's the most profitable choice (aka the last one added into the game)
