I have an idea for a whole new industry: Real Estate. I don't have material requirements or costs, as I think this is something that could be discussed/determined by the admins.
Sales Offices:
Brokerage (sells houses)
Home Furnishings Store (sells furnishings)
Products/(possible material requirements):
Brokerage:
Cottage (planks, windows, tools)
Single Family House (planks, windows, tools (but obviously more)
Furnished Single Family House (MORE planks/windows/tools, AND couch, bed) << Will be explained later
Duplex (Bricks, Windows, Tools)
Furnished Duplex (MORE Bricks, Windows, Tools, AND couch, bed, and bookshelf)
Mansion (Bricks, planks, windows, tools)
Furnished Mansion (MORE bricks, planks, windows, tools, AND couch, bed, bookshelf, and washing machine)
Home Furnishings Store:
Couch: (Wood/fabric)
Bed: (Wood, Fabric, Cotton)
Bookshelf: (Planks, tools)
Washing Machine: (Aluminum, electronic components, water)
As you may guess from my product descriptions, you can create new home furnishing products and either sell those products to the home furnishing store as stand alone products, or combine them with other materials to make various houses. You would then take the houses to the brokerage to be sold. Think of this as not necessarily moving the entire house to the brokerage for it to be sold to NPCs, but you're taking the "deed to the brokerage to be sold. This idea also opens up other possibilities:
Special Building (to be used with in game construction slot)
Apartments: You build this building on an open construction slot in game (using construction materials just like other buildings). This building would function like a mine/quarry/oil rig, and would have a "curb appeal" or a "maintenance" condition (instead of abundance). You could rent this building out to NPCs. The result would be money. This would require power and electricity as materials to keep your tenants happy. It would also cost you an hourly charge for staff, maintenance people, management, etc. You could have the maintenance/curb appeal condition decrease daily as well as every hour it's actively used for rent, since people (NPCs in this case) generally wear and tear on buildings. Once you get below x maintenance/curb appeal, you'll have to rent it for cheaper for people to actually move in to your building, and once you get below Z maintenance/curb appeal, people will flat out refuse to rent from you. You can scrap and rebuild this building in the same way as you can for mines/quarries/oil rigs.
Government Contracts:
You could use these new functions to create new government contracts. I'm tired and need to go to bed, so my idea here may be just a bit limited. But you could do something like "The Army just had an influx of recruits, and the defense department needs housing and food". And they could need X amount of furnished duplexes and Y amount of steaks and Z amount of apples.
Just an idea I quickly threw together. I apologize if something like this has been suggested or is in progress. Feel free to add/subtract/comment/critique/question any, all, or part of this you want.
