There are many ways to proceed along in this game but the one I'm about to discuss is the one I've attempted to follow in my progress. I refer to it as, "The Cheapskate's Guide" and hopefully this will assist new players.
When starting, I very much recommend a set up of 2 plantations along with the 1 grocery. This way, you are ALWAYS making seeds which will mean you are using the other plantation to create said produce and this will help you begin to learn the rhythm of ALWAYS having a production line going.
When you have made some cash from selling produce through your market, it will be time to use a plot to start a farm. At this point, also go ahead and start up a 3rd plantation when financially able to make grain and use this to start making eggs, sausage or steaks on your farm, depending on the current retail demand, which will replace the fruit you are currently making.
As this is going on, you'll notice the water supplied to you has started to run low. It's ok to find someone in sales chat to buy from but don't go overboard. You aren't going to need to purchase three million units of water. You are going to need enough to last until you get the funds for a water reservoir. A good message to post would be
"Buying X amount Q0 water @ reasonable price".
I'd check the current asking price for Quality 0 water on the Exchange when I see an offer from your pm to compare the two but you do you. Some people's idea of reasonable is different. Once you've built the water reservoir, you will now hopefully understand what I used my power for
that was given to me in my warehouse in the beginning. Yes, some say sell it because you don't need it immediately but I'd rather have access to ultra cheap power to get my initial water running cheaper then make a little cash. I'm not trying to be discouraging to those who do this but you are reading about how to be a cheapskate after all.
Getting back to your farm, it's always important to have seeds and grain producing that YOU make. You'll notice I didn't add fruit with those two. Unless it's a conscious choice to continue that route, you'll want to mass produce grain to keep feeding your farm and since you've got limited plots, keeping that second grocery which I see too often will slow you down. Better to find a new business partner by providing your excess at a fair price to you both.
Doing things this way not only saves a little (Yes, it's basically pennies) but you are also learning the art of self production aka being a cheapskate and this will be of big help as you progress.
