Not surprisingly, the new design has created a big stir! Some love the changes, some not so much. That’s ok, I never expected 20,000 people to agree. But I wanted to show why some decisions were made so everyone can understand. First, the initial concept from Patrik was to have the buildings evolve much like a SimCompany could - starting as a farmer and working the way up to a modern/futuristic building. I think we did that! ColorsThe colors seem to have a love/hate reaction. The aqua and the yellow were pulled from existing game colors. The aqua is from the Exchange and the yellow was from the delivery truck and the Car Dealer. There were new intermediate shades for gradients, shadows, and where more contrast was needed. Overall DesignOne of the common comments I saw was “the buildings don’t match”. Well no. And yes. Part of the issue I had with coming up with a consistent look is there isn’t a consistent look with the existing buildings. I believe they came from different places and/or different designers. The scale differs from building to building as does the style. The Aerospace Factory and Rigs on my map look completely different. Maybe that will get addressed as the game goes on, maybe it will remain a quirk. Some of the HQ's do look better with some buildings and not others. I think a good example is the "round" buildings fit will with an all Hardware Store map such as Nemo's. For the upper level buildings I drew inspiration from several of Google’s Offices as well as other Frank Gehry buildings. I did not not as extreme as he does though. The rooftop gardens are a little nod to Google’s new London office, and the decks in the mid level buildings remind me of their Venice Beach office. You can sort of see them here. I also looked at the architecture of Dubai and Southeast Asia for inspiration. Lastly, many have asked about buying skins to change colors or design. I agree that could be a fun addition to the game, but that is up to Patrik, not me. 😊 Change isn't easy for everyone - remember the big controversy when the PA changed? We got over that too.

Hi, Moo. I think you're off saying the existing buildings do not share a consistent look. They most certainly do. Mostly with color but also with their geometry. The scalability is something that can be modified, but before the current HQ change, I've never heard anyone complain about it. Coss raised some solid points in this thread simcompanies.proboards.com/thread/1272/redesign-feedback-poll-april-updateI agree with what he said and I think an option to toggle different looks would be awesome. But as Moo said, this is up to Patrik to enforce. As for my personal opinion on the design, I would suggest not to try make each building pop with so much vibrance. They end up becoming too distracting. Also, could you make my HQ look less like a steam iron?

Hi Moo, Firstly, thank you for your efforts to improve the aesthetics of our game play.
I agree with the scalability and really like the way the lower levels build upon each other to scale up as a player progresses, its a really nice touch!
My question is why can't this continue right the way to the end? it just sort of ends and gets replaced by random buildings with no continuity.
Personally I think it's a job well done for the most, I cannot personally get on board with the cylindrical design (I appreciate some of the buildings have evolved due to height issues!) it's unfortunate that the yellow cylinder is with a player for a long time due to the levels they occupy whereas the artistry that has gone into the progression through the lower levels is somewhat rushed through as the lower levels fly by in comparison to L20+
