During a discussion today, we talked about ways to encourage reading of the SC Times and we concluded that something like this would be a good idea:
A multiple choice question at the bottom of the SC Times each week that can be answered only while that edition is the newest, with one attempt provided to get the question right. (select answer, then submit -- two step to prevent accidents). The question would be derived from that edition of the SC Times. If they get the question right, they get rewarded with a nominal amount of Sim Boosts. If they get it wrong, there's always next week.
Considerations:
Would like to see the ability for the paper to have 3-4 questions set, then randomly pick one for each company. While it wouldn't eliminate it, it would make it a bit more challenging than just waiting for somebody to share the correct answer in the chat.
Don't want to change things in terms of free Sim Boosts too much. Wanted to keep the number of free Sim Boosts under 80 per week (so you can't run 2 Rec buildings on only free simboosts) and wanted to keep the daily Sim Boosts (per week) enough to run a rec building with spares. As such, we came up with the idea of dropping the daily Sim Boosts for logging in, and for starting production/retail to 4 each, yielding a total of up to 56 per week (down from 70), and give 21 Sim Boosts for getting the question right (taking it up to a possible 77 for the week). These are just the numbers that we came up with. We figured too small (for example 1-9) wouldn't give a huge incentive and too big would just sway people away from purchases.
Finally, this is very similar to Envy's weekly drawing, with the key difference being readers wouldn't get a 1/1500 chance at winning a bit jackpot, but rather a good chance of getting a little bit and nothing to say that both can't happen side-by-side.
