In my opinion, one of the biggest issues with the Aerospace industry right now is that it can extremely time consuming to sell or buy AS end products, especially if you want to do so at a reasonable price for the given market. This is because the main way most AS sales work is through the AS chat and both the buyer and seller have to be on at the same time. This time sink can cause players to quit over time as it becomes unsustainable to devote that much time trying to find buyers/sellers, especially as the volume of items produced increases.
Other industries have the exchange which allows them to list their products and eventually they will be picked up by the next person who needs that product. The only way of reliably buying/selling AS products quickly is to work with resellers who often demand extreme prices which has caused a lot of conflict in the past due to exploiting newer or unfamiliar players. I personally don't think any industry should rely on resellers to be functional and that there should be some other method that fills this gap.
I have a couple of suggestions on how to help this situation with varying degrees of impact to the AS industry and likely difficulty of implementation:
1) My preferred fix to this would be allowing players to list AS items for sale on their profile. This could act as a vending machine of sorts which would allow for sellers to list their available products (almost like the display case) and the price that they cost. Buyers could then go to the profile and purchase directly from the profile.
Pros:
This eliminates the need for buyers/sellers to be on at the same time.
There would be a limited impact to the industry as a whole, because people would still need to advertise that they have products available. Buyers could continue to work directly with their networks, but it would also be easier to browse other suppliers and shop around for a better deal.
Reselling is still possible, but not as crucial to the industry which would lower the amount of people who go to extremes and cause conflicts.
Additional selling slots could be a simboost purchase which could help fund the game.
Cons:
From an outside perspective, this seems difficult to implement.
2) An alternative fix would be to allow AS items to be listed on the exchange with a lower fee, potentially 1%. The only reason that I'm aware of that AS products weren't included in the exchange is that the 3% fee would be too much for expensive AS end products. If there is another reason, that could be added to the cons list.
Pros:
This eliminates the need for buyers/sellers to be on at the same time.
Resellers wouldn't be essential to the industry.
From an outside perspective, this seems easy to implement since it's just adding new items to the exchange and changing the fee.
Cons:
This would significantly impact the industry and would likely cause the AS chat to become significantly quieter.
I'd be open to other ideas which allow for easier sales of AS end products, these are just the ideas that I had. I'm sure there are other pros/cons for these ideas that I didn't think about as well.
