Hi,
New to the forums here cause I wanted to get this idea out there.
I read in the "Future Development" page that the plan is to create an auction house for buildings so that you could bid on buildings and move them from player to player.
I feel like we should take it one step further. Since the addition of the construction industry, it has made it feasible to build buildings for less than others can build them due to the nature of market prices and such.
My proposal is as follows:
Instead of auctioning buildings in a blind auction with maximum and minimum values, have a marketplace for buildings where sellers can set their own prices for buildings. Also, allow buildings to be sold via contract for less exchange fees. This would allow a player to become a real "GC" (General Contractor) in that they could build a GC and other material producing buildings and then develop finished product buildings on other plots of land that they could then sell for a markup.
I would love to be able to become a GC and build high lvl and high abundance bauxite mines and then sell them at a markup. On the other side of the transaction: I am currently a bauxite producer, so I know how time, money and labor intensive it is to prospect mines and then ALSO after that level them to lvl 10 before they are worth putting into production. I would be much more willing to buy the building from someone else pre-leveled and ready to go at a markup. I would also like to hook up with someone that can produce mines for me so I can have them do the prospecting for a good mine while I focus on doing the producing.
Summary
Goal: Expand upon the construction industry to make it a true "construction" industry and also make it easy on the purchaser side to get that building that you want without all of the waiting.
Impact:
- Likely will create a semi-high end game type upstream producer of buildings who contracts out for materials from downstream producers. Likely capital and time intensive but profitable.
- Possibly create higher demand for building materials and also potentially more productive mining and gas companies which supports a vast portion of in-game economy.
- The construction industry would feel more like a real life construction industry.
- You could also have a scenario where the construction market feeds itself as GCs build quarries (for example) for their suppliers and sell them to them at a discount to further invest into their supplier's capabilities.
Mechanics:
You could use the method I described above where companies list their constructed buildings on the exchange or send a contract to a prospective buyer. The market charges selling fees (or "closing costs" if you wanted to be fancy). The buyer must have an open slot and the purchase price in their bank account. You could even have like a waiting time like 2-24 hours before the building arrives if you would like.
Please let me know what you all think. I work as a accountant for a IRL construction sub-contractor if you have any specific construction industry related knowledge you need.
Thanks!
