This guide was made in hopes of helping you understand how to use the encyclopedia. Since the addition of the Profit Calculator that needs a CFO with at least 5 skills in Accounting; I have seen an alarming amount of new players wasting money on a CFO just so they can use the Profit Calculator. This guide was made in hopes of remedying the needless waste of hard earned cash that could be used for other more important uses.
Basics:
First this guide is aimed at the Production side of the Encyclopedia. Sorry, retailers .
In the image below we can see Apples. At the top are the inputs that make apples with their multipliers.
Apples need 3 water and 1 seed to produce 1 apple.
Below the Apple in the center we can see how much transport is needed for each apple.
1 transport is needed for 1 apple.
If you wanted to sell 50 apples on the exchange you would also need 50 transport. If you sold 50 apples through a contract you would need 25 transport (half transport for contracts). If you sold 50 apples in the Grocery Store you don't need any transport.
To produce apples you need to have a FARM (old name plantation).
To sell apples via retail you need to have a Grocery store.
Inside the encyclopedia you can click on any image you see and it will take you to that item's encyclopedia page (including the buildings).
Calculating Unit Cost:
By using the encyclopedia's information we can calculate the unit cost of apples.
(Unit worker cost) + (Unit admin cost) + (resource inputs) = unit cost
($0.50) + ($0.02) + (3 water, $0.978 + 1 seed, $0.203) = $1.71 unit cost for apples
Price of apples on the exchange (at time of making this guide): $1.92
$1.92 - $1.71 = $0.21 profit if sold on the exchange (does not include transport or the 3% fee)
The Production Speed Bonus and Administration Overhead will default to your company's information. You can manually change these by using the minus and plus signs on the production calculator.
Thinking of building upgrades?:
If you are planning to do building upgrades you can calculate your Administration Overhead by using the following formula:
Admin % = (building levels - 1) / 170
(or 0.58% increase for each building level)
This will give you your new Administration Overhead so you can manually change it in the calculator. This will increase the Unit Admin Cost so you can figure out how much more your new unit costs will be. (see the following gif) Notice how increasing the admin increases the Unit Admin cost on the right.
I suggest playing with the production calculator to see how Building Levels, Production Speed Bonus, and Administration Overhead affect your products.
Profit per Hour:
With the information provided in this guide you can now figure out profits without a CFO.
Take your profit multiplied by units an hour.
Using the apples from the first section:
$0.21 (profit) x 206.31 (units and hour) = $43.33 profit/h
please note:
1. You will need to figure out your own transport and exchange fees.
2. There are 3 possible economic phases in Sim Companies. These phases change the quantity an hour. See Frequently Asked Questions in the Library for the current phase.
- Recessions are great for producers with the most production per hour.
- A normal economic phase is the middle ground for production an hour.
- Booms are the lowest for production an hour.
Keep these in mind when calculating profits.
